Taxi Transfers To and From Porto Airport

Passengers arriving at Porto Airport will find the taxi rank just outside the terminal. Airport taxis typically transfer up to 4 passengers and their luggage, but it is possible to arrange for larger vehicles, such as premium minivans or Sedans. Many private taxi companies do not charge extra for wheelchairs, bicycles or golf clubs, but generally, items larger than 55x35x20 cm will incur an additional fee, as will additional suitcases or travel bags. Child seats and baby booster seats are usually classed as optional extras, at around 6.00 euros per seat.

The official airport taxi company is called Antral (+351 225 353 359, porto@antral.pt, www.antral.pt), but there are many others who will provide private taxi transfers to hotels or other tourist accommodation. The fare to Porto city costs between 20.00 and 24.00 euros, depending on the actual drop off point in the city.

Within Porto there are other options like the Metro or buses, but the best way to see historic Porto is by river taxi on the Douro River. Various river cruises leave central Porto's historic Ribeira district and Vila Nova de Gaia every day. Another service links Afurada in Vila Nova da Gaia to the northern bank of the river, picking up passengers just below the Ponte da Arrábida.

River cruises and water taxis can carry between 20 to 350 passengers. There are six beautiful bridges spanning the Douro River, and some of the most popular short river cruises go under all six of them in traditional "rabelos", Douro River boats that used to transport wine from the vineyards of the Alto Douro wine-producing areas to the port wine cellars of Porto city's Vila Nova de Gaia district. Now these "rabelos" carry up to 28 passengers up and down the river.
